The first aviation activity in Toruń took place in 1880 when an observation balloon flew over the city.
Pomeranian Aeroclub in Toruń was established in 1935 by aviation enthusiasts and former pilots. During the activity of aeroclub, it has organized national aviation competitions many times, as well as international events.
In 2009, the Pomeranian Aeroclub became the organizer of the 19th World Precision Flying Championship. It was the first International Championship in Toruń. Shortly after that event, in 2011 a Championship was organized, this time in glider aerobatic (14th FAI World Glider Aerobatic Championships & 2nd FAI World Glider Advanced Aerobatic Championship). The activity of Pomeranian Aeroclub met with an appreciation of FAI, which was expressed by the Group Diploma of Honor for their significant contribution to the Progress of aeronautics through the organization of many national and international events and training of competitors of national and international standards.
In 2014, the Aeroclub Pomorski was one of the few aviation centres in the world to host two prestigious flying events month after month: the 19th FAI World Rally Flying Championship & the 17th FAI World Glider Aerobatic Championships & 5th FAI World Advanced Glider Aerobatic Championships. In 2017, gliding competitions were again held during The 20th FAI World Glider Aerobatic Championships & The 8th FAI World Advanced Glider Aerobatic Championships.
For a change in 2019, they hosted aircraft acrobats for the first time at the 11th FAI European Advanced Aerobatic Championship. 2021 was a time of intensive work for the Pomeranian Aeroclub, as it once again hosted two significant events: The 14th FAI World Advanced Aerobatic Championships & 64th Gordon Bennett Aeronautical Cup. In 2022, the FAI commissioned us to host the 3rd FAI World Intermediate Open Aerobatic Championships.
Our aim is to provide forward information for everyone with an interest in aerobatic competition flying.
For this however we do need your help, so please make sure that your Aerobatic Club or National Airsport Control sends us details of all competitions that are open to pilots and/or judges from other countries and we’ll add them to our Championship Calendar so that they get the widest circulation possible.
